106.10.2024DanTalksRasslin4.0AWA made a rare East Coast stop for this benefit event for muscular dystrophy, and it looks to have drawn pretty well, so hopefully it raised some good cash. As tothe event itself, it was certainly memorable, though not necessarily for all of the intended reasons. It's mostly house show-like, with short matches with mostly either the good guys going over or inconclusive results with the faces getting some post-match shine. The main event between Slaughter and Zhukov was probably the best of the night, not strictly for its in-ring action, but certainly in terms of heat from the crowd; the show was very much built around Slaughter being in the main event with interviews and hype packages (such as Slaughter touring Boston historic sites in his camouflage limo) leading up to it. There's also some good grappling action in the ten-minute title broadway between Martel and Bockwinkel, the opener with Backlund and Larry Z. going to a DQ, and in the short Rheingans-Robinson bout, Greg Gagne and Steve Regal put on a decent little face vs. face showcase, and the Road Warriors get over huge with the crowd in a decently-wild Tag Title defense against the Long Riders. One of the most memorable aspects of the show, though, might be the play-by-play from Boston radio personality Eddie Andelman, which is... certainly something special - to his credit, he does get most of the talent names right (other than repeatedly calling the Long Riders the "Pale Riders"), but he also miscalls just about every move (I've never before or since heard a legdrop called a "tushy sit"), openly proclaims his boredom by technical wrestling, sings randomly, and frequently misinterprets who the crowd supports, despite hearing their reactions live from ringside (as the crowd goes wild for the Road Warriors' victory, he proclaims that "they aren't happy, they wanted to see the good guys win! "), and his commentary alone might just make this worth the watch.
