530.05.2017jboyaquar7.0Unlike the Chicago fans, many of whom wore the nervy face of those attending a bigger & (fortunate for them) better show to attend that night, this was Detroit's big show of the weekend and hence made the better crowd. I prefer A Daniels the sociopath and not another dude feasting on irony. DG brings unique skills but is short & may have a face better suited for radio. As tag champs from the 'C Point' brand, Dickinson & Jaka are more successful partly b/c how well they blend together to form a rollin' single locomotive. Their offensive arsenal could have put away their challengers in half-the-time. The Mankind-voiced Kincade desperately needs a heel turn as the insanity that is D Allin has stolen JK's babyface ascension. Tonight, P Kelley evoked A Donahue in K Russell's '88 flick "... the White Worm. " She is one sexy serpent. Dijak/Page felt more like an AIW than Evolve contest and I didn't care for it. Following the cheap personality of the previous contest, the dry, colorless but technically sound O'Reilly/Williams bout had a difficult time following. The crowd wanted 'outlandish' fun and KO'R/TW did not give that to them. 2 1/2 Thankfully the show picked up from here. I bought into the conduct of Yehi/Lee; KL's double hand chop at the buckle is silly devestating. And the way his mid-section pops up from the winning powerslam evokes the classic caboose's of the past. 3 1/4 Despite his incredible strength and wrestling pedigree, Cobb has difficulty in maintaining match momentum when he's on offense for sustained periods of time. However, these two are made for each other and it was a refreshing six minute sprint from some of the overlong earlier bouts. 3 1/3 The M Event also featured two guys w/ great chemistry. Unlike the ZSJ/Scurll encounters, the match had a focus, LR's taped lft shoulder, and urgency & way above-average ZSJ fire. Easily the best match of Evolve's weekend rightfully earning the "T is Awe" chant. 3 3/4 - 4

Sabre Jr. bs. Rush II toppt ihre erste Begegnung knapp. (***3/4)

1123.05.2017Glover8.0Opener was really neat 3-minute sprint; Garrini makes an impression on me every time I see him, but Daniels is a blank slate for me (**1/2). Tag Titles had a really well put-together basic structure sort of match; Catch Point dominated and destroyed with flawless teamwork, working over Austin, who played a great FIP, while Kincaid's hot tag was good; when the match broke down, it got really exciting with a great pace between each big spot, and a lot of REALLY smart tag moments; yet another great tag match from the Pazuzu boys (****). I'm generally not into Priscilla Kelly at all, but her match with Kay was not bad at all; mostly due to Allysin, probably (**3/4). Page & Dijak settled the score in who is the king of Vanity Searches in a very fun match that had a good mix of character work and solid action; Dijak's selling constantly impresses me as much as his moveset (***1/2). Hot Sauce vs O'Reilly was a little disappointing; it was very technically sound and had some really good striking, but Tracy & Kyle just did not click into a match that could evolve beyond their raw ability (***1/4). Keith & Yehi have one thing in common: every time they have a match they do something totally unique, and their match against one another was a perfect example; this match was sequence after sequence of these two guys coming at each other from really different angles and dealing with their opponent's offense in ways only they can, plus some neat character interaction; fantastically unique exhibition (****1/2). Riddle & Cobb had a really good 6-minute shooter vs shooter fight (***1/2). As somebody that thought their last match was somewhat overrated and held back by Sabre, ZSJ/Rush II had a lot more aggression, and with Zack on top over 80% of the match, his poor selling didn't come into play; ZSJ working over a limb is where he shines, and Lio had immense fire working from underneath; ended a bit before I felt it should've though (****1/4). A step up from 84.

1322.05.2017NastyYaffa7.0Daniels/Garrini was a solid opener, good seeing Garrini in EVOLVE (**), the Catch Point tag was a bore - went too long & nothing interesting happened (*), Kay/Kelly was OK (**), Dijak/Page was trash, such a boring match, but I gotta give credit for Dijak who is responsible for the match not being a total DUD (*1/2), O'Reilly/Williams was good, yet a bit disappointing because of how good both of those guys are (***), Yehi/Lee followed Lee's streak of tremendous David vs. Goliath matches in EVOLVE; borderline great match (***3/4), Riddle/Cobb was a really good sprint w/ both guys looking tremendous in it (***1/2), ZSJ/Rush II just blew my mind - might have topped Thatcher/ZSJ as my EVOLVE MOTY so far (****3/4). The first half of the show was super meh, but once O'Reilly vs. Hot Sauce happened, things picked up. The last 3 matches all were super enjoyable.
