3 | 27.04.2025 | Loki Hipster God | 6.0 | A lot of this was slow and methodical, with KENTA working over the neck of Ricky Starks (and the commentators do a good job of playing up Starks' previous fractured neck injury.) I haven't been following Defy and was a little confused by the booking and the heel/face dynamics. Starks seemed to play the face for most of the match, then turns heel at the end by cheating and gets booed for it. KENTA seemed to play the heel for most of the match, but gets cheered for the final stretches. Overall, this looked like an interesting matchup on paper, but didn't have a lot of sizzle for me or anything that was memorable. There was a good heated strike exchange at the end where it felt like the match was really starting to pick up, but then the match just abruptly ends right after. |

I wish they had stuck in one direction instead of switching roles mid-match. Ricky read the room correctly as he garnered some boos from the crowd before the bell and Kenta was cheered so to start the match he leaned heel with antics like digging in the mouth and stretching the lips. Kenta, on the other hand, by default became a fighting babyface and those no-selling the chops worked in favor of their dynamic. However, somewhere in the middle, Kenta started working a methodical heat segment with Ricky doing babyface spots like the ref raising the arm three times checking for signs of life. Interestingly enough, it worked! Ricky started getting cheered and Kenta garnered boos, however, in the last act after Kenta brought in a belt, Ricky tried to use it and got 'F-you Ricky! ' chants. Weird match, but I enjoyed it. The action was good. ***1/4 |

17 | 09.02.2025 | DOUKI4CHAMP | 7.0 | Really good match to end the long KENTA reign. Ricky Starks is a good face to bring attention to Defy and bring a different feel to the main events than the former challenger, even though I wish they could create another new name to represent the company similar to Swerve and Nick Wayne. There was some good nastiness from Starks that he doesn't show that much, which works really well with the style that KENTA works in his main event matches. Some of the ref bump stuff felt unnecessary for the title change, I think it hurt the momentum of the build and took some of the energy away from the finish. ***1/2 |
18 | 08.02.2025 | ParkwayDriver | 8.0 | A very good match between KENTA and Ricky Starks. It was the best singles match I've seen Ricky have since his pair of matches with Bryan in AEW. A good clean end to KENTA's DEFY title reign which was filled with good-very good defenses against a variety of opponents over 600 days. |
19 | 08.02.2025 | ColdSpoons | 8.0 | (Watched live) Ricky Starks ends the wonderful reign KENTA had as champion. KENTA got pretty stiff with Ricky in this and there was points I really thought KENTA would retain. Very excited to see how this Ricky title reign goes. |
