However, Wilde has yet to receive a real breakout moment in WWE. He's been consistent, but not showcased. | 15 | 08.04.2025 | smokestack | 8.0 | I've been watching this guy for the better part of 15 or so years. I wasn't privileged to see him start out, but I was front and center for Zema Ion. He was grating as hell, and I guess that was the point, because he was a heel. The weird gear, the boilerplate heel stuff, but then he wrestled Jesse Sorensen. That was probably the beginning of a career littered with highs and lows. When he became DJZ, I thought he was dead in the water. But then he started doing "BURR BURR BA BURR" and something stuck, while his ring work got damn near elite. The tag team with Andrew Everett should've been huge, and he saw another unfortunate incident first hand (Sexy Star). But during that run, he immersed himself in lucha libre, and I'd say is probably one of the best "gringo" practitioners of the art. Broke his wrist, got two internal injuries back to back and then got that WWE deal. Unfortunately, he's be relegated to being a supporting guy most of his time there, but he always finds a new way to surprise me. That super springboard plancha, the Twitter feud with Kofi Kingston that translated to a pretty solid TV feud. I realize that Cagematch is often a place where fans who want to dig deeper come to learn, so I just want it to be known that the comments below do NOT capture the specialness of Joaquin Wilde/DJZ/Zema Ion/Shiima Xion. That Yung Go Hard is just getting started. |
