[6.0] "Maybe the oddest feud in wrestling history in that the genuine, nuclear backstage heat produced such little in-ring work thanks to Shawn's primadonna periods of peacing out, and yet maybe no feud has had the most profound indirect impact on the entire industry. Their Iron Man match is one of the most overrated main events in history, and the best shot we had of a great normal match was undone by the screwjob that would have such a seismic fallout that it would kickstart WWF's revival and push them into an effective 20-year monopoly in the States. These two guys left millions on the table not being able to act professionally enough to play out their hate in the ring, but they ended up making billions for their boss."
[5.0] "A feud that never played out all that well on screen compared to what we know was going on backstage. They never had a truly great match and their chemistry for whatever reason just was not there when the bell rang."

"For me, this is the ultimate feud. Kayfabe and real life, shoot and work, it blurred lines and both guys pushed hard even if it wasn't that long of a period. I do think it feels better looking back - knowing that Shawn knew, knowing about Montreal before watching it all, knowing where it was going, knowing how important the work they did during the feud laid for the entire business afterwards. Plus its elevated by the pure talent of the two individuals that to this day people can rightly argue that either is the best wrestler of the 90s if not all time. Its hard to seperate everything and just look at what was on screen or in the ring, because if its purely in the ring they created two of the most important matches of all time plus another total classic from Summerslam 1992. If it is their mic work, I mean 1997 was truly epic but it was really only that, and it was as much about putting Stone Cold over."
[9.0] "There's a decision to be made before giving a rating. Do we rate their on-screen rivalry or we'll include backstage shenanigans and get the whole package? I will choose the second option because their real-life drama affected their on-screen rivalry, especially towards its end. On-screen, there are really 3 matches: Survivor Series 1992, WrestleMania XII (1996) and Survivor Series 1997. All of them can be considered classics, but them alone aren't enough to classify their rivalry as a legendary one. Real-life drama enters the picture in 1996, so the rivalry heats up, mainly due to some spicy promos, a couple of them being more real than usual. So, with their animosity's help, tension really rises during the final years of the rivalry and this definitely helps the product. Finally, the elephant in the room. The conclusion of that rivalry is a very pivotal moment in wrestling history. The chain of events that followed, shaped the wrestling ladscape in the US."
"It? s hard to rate this feud high because there wasn? t much of a feud (on screen) Most of the fame and legend of this feud all come from the events that happened behind the scenes. If you dont know much about that, you may find the segments and matches boring. They didnt do a lot of work together on camera, they only had like 5 segments together and only a few classic matches over the years (obviously due to the animosity going on between them at the time.) Had potential to be a lot better if they could? ve actually worked together and did more."
[6.0] "An interesting rivarly in many aspects. The match quality is often up for debate. Some love their chemistry and feels there animosity enchances their work. Some finds their matches oddly boring and lacking of hate (which often comes through their dislike of one another bringing out their worst restrictive tendencies). I lean towards the latter, if I'm truthful. I find that their styles don't mesh totally well into one cohesive match at the best of times. With the exception being the most famous match of the era, the SVS 97 match which is by far their best match, imo. The rivalry, to me, feels more legendary for the backstage politics involved with these two. The struggle for the top spot, refusing to lose, faking injuries, etc. That's where the magic in this rivarly is. However, I don't think it translated well to the screen either. It comes off as bitching and whining, honestly. So for that I can't give it a high rating despite it's historic impact."
[8.0] "Though they didn't have any classic matches together, what makes this rivalry so fascinating is that the hatred they had for each other was real. With two completely different styles, they were without a doubt the two best wrestlers in the WWF at the time."

[8.0] "Fehden an sich sind eigentlich Geschäftlich, das diese aber auch in Private gelangte lag ganz klar am Screw Job. Das Match bei der SS97 war klasse, aber überzeugte mich nicht ganz wegen dem Betrug. WM12 da war es auch kein klares Ende. Ich finde beide Wrestler alleine gesehen eine klare 10. Aber Sorry zusammen war das nichts für mich."
[10.0] "Eine der legendärsten Rivalitäten der 90er Jahre! Besonders beim letzten Aufeinandertreffen konnte man schon vor dem Screwjob die persönliche Rivalität nahezu mit den Händen greifen.... Aber fehlt in der Auflistung ihrer Matches gegeneinander nicht das Leiter-Match (das erste ever in der WWF/E) von 1992 um den Intercontinental Title? EDIT: Ok, gerade gesehen, dass das Leiter-Match eigentlich nur ein Houseshow-Match war (welches nachträglich auf Video erschien), daher fehlt es natürlich in der Auflistung."
[10.0] "Das war für mich DIE Wrestling Rivalität schlechthin. Dadurch, dass die beiden sich auch im privaten Bereich überhaupt nicht ausstehen konnten, war auch noch eine menge Pep dahinter. Ich finde es zum Teil nur schade, dass es nie eine richtige Face vs. Heel Fehde gab. Die ganze Sache , gegen Ende 1992, war eher ein Überbrückungsprogramm als eine ernstgemeinte Fehde. Dennoch war die Auseinandersetztung Ende 1997 beispielsweise wirklich immens Spannend. Schade nur, dass es zum Screwjob kam. Trotzdem: Matches Top, Promos Top, beide gehören zu den besten Wrestlern aller Zeiten = volle Punktzahl. Ohne wenn und aber."
[8.0] "Klar waren die Matches gut, aber die Storys dahinter waren meist nur halbes und nichts ganzes. Und die Tatsache, dass Montreal in die Geschichtsbücher eingeht, ist auch noch kein Grund, die volle Punktzahl zu geben, denn auch diese Fehde war immer wieder durchsäht von kleinen Störfaktoren. Insgesamt kann man ein gut aber dennoch rechtfertigen."
[6.0] "Der Mythos Montreal und die wohldokumentierte private Feindschaft haben das, was vor den Kameras letztendlich war, um ein vielfaches größer wirken lassen, als es wirklich war. Außer dem in seiner Qualität strittigen Ironman-Match und der aus naheliegenden Gründen recht schnell beendeten, tatsächlichen Fehde, war da nur viel unzusammenhängendes Stückwerk. Das einzige der angeblich so vielen so hochklassigen Matches der beiden war das heute größtenteils vergessene Leitermatch anno 1992. Ich könnte mir gar vorstellen, dass ohne die Backstage-Begleitmusik hier sogar das ein oder andere "Eigentlich ist das gar keine richtige Rivalität" gekommen wäre."
